Job Role: Technical Manager - Building Safety

Location: Luton/Flexible

Job Sector: Technical Services

Hours: 35 hours per week

As the Technical Manager - Building Safety you will contribute to our vision of being the UKs favourite property manager by:

  • Contributing to the delivery of the building safety programme strategy and objectives through working with operational teams and key stakeholder leaders to improve and deliver organisational performance and capability implementing building safety deliverables.
  • Developing and embedding an effective and consistent approach to managing risks in relation to external wall systems and associated risks across the portfolio.
  • Leading the technical assessment and assurance work in relation to external wall systems and associated risks

This role reports to the Director of Building Safety and has no direct reports.

About You:

You have a good understanding of building construction and fire risk, ideally with evidence of fire safety education and AIFireE level membership or equivalent and ideally have experience of a building/fire safety role in a residential environment.
 
Having a good understanding of current and emerging relevant fire and building safety advice and legislation
means you are able to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external specialisms
You are able to articulate building safety messages in a clear, non-mystical way in order to aid and support understanding of responsibilities and requirements within the business and are able to plan work with teams effectively and prioritise activity in line with risk
 
Being capable of hands on building safety problem solving means you have the ability to generate ideas and solutions as well as being commercially astute; able to use data and insights to make decisions and track trends
You are able to produce/present reports that contain appropriate and easy to follow information and have excellent IT skills, social-media savvy and up to date with new technology
 
Being a Confident, optimistic, articulate communicator – both orally and in writing; able to build influential and engaging relationships with all colleagues, from site-based colleagues to directors to stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Promote and sustain a constructive, supportive and cordial working relationship with all customers, external and internal, clients, immediate and senior management and other work colleagues.
  • Work effectively with external bodies such as fire experts, suppliers and fire/building enforcement authorities in conjunction with the Head of Fire Safety & internal Health & Safety Team
  • Builds strategies by identifying External Wall System priorities from organisational and departmental plans, translating business requirements into effective building safety strategies and practices and delivers them through a variety of agreed and relevant safety solutions.
  • Provide and arrange for technical building safety advice and information to all relevant colleagues in relation to achieving the appropriate level of safety of external wall systems and associated risks.
  • Support colleagues in providing help and support with messaging to customers and clients on key technical matters relating to external wall systems and associated risks.
  • Work with internal support teams and colleagues to develop and deliver a clear external wall systems safety improvement plan.
  • Ensure that effective external wall system and associated risks management information and analysis is provided.
  • Review compliance with emerging and stablished relevant fire and building safety obligations, highlighting risk, vulnerability and trends and make recommendations for improvements
  • Review and revise relevant building safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Collates and prepares monthly board and client group reporting with metrics that identifies strategic safety reporting and improvements; formulates a robust continuous improvement plan.
  • Ensure that there is adequate provision of information and updates on key matters relating to external wall systems and associated risks as and when required
